The Office of Wellness Services, formerly Alcohol Iniatives is committed to the development, implementation and assessment of educational programming and activities designed to prevent and reduce the incidence of alcohol and other drug use and abuse within the Tulane University community. The Office works collaboratively with the Departments of Housing & Res Life, the Student Health Center, Campus Recreation, and the Educational Resources and Counseling to develop theory-based education and activities that will promote positive growth and development of Tulane students.
News and Events:
This August 2007, over 1,200 Tulane freshmen enrolled in the AlcoholEdu course prior to moving onto campus. This number represents over 91% of the incoming freshman class! As several freshmen wrote, the experience provided them with an better understanding of how to handle situations that could result in harm to friends or themself.
What is AlcoholEdu for College?
An online alcohol education program that is designed to be the cornerstone of prevention efforts, challenging students' expectations around alcohol while enabling students to make healthier and safer decisions.
Why AlcoholEdu for College?
Surveys from more than 70,000 students who completed AlcoholEdu for College in the summer and fall of 2005 demonstrate the effects of the program. After taking the course:
- 72% said they now know more about blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and 44% of men know more about how alcohol affects consent for sex.
- 70% said they would recommend the program to other students.
Further, an independent study of AlcoholEdu for College showed that students who took the course had 50% fewer negative personal, health, and academic consequences than those who did not take it.
When will AlcoholEdu become available for incoming Freshmen and Parents?
Expect to see an email on Monday July 28, 2008 providing both Freshmen and their parents access codes and links to 2008 AlcoholEdu. The online program will open that day.
